I’m a Freak for Test Freaks

Bloged in General, Handhelds, Reviews, All Handhelds by All Handhelds Thursday January 17, 2008 at about 8:07 am

One of my favorite things to blog about is great web sites. As a web publisher, I spend a great deal of time online. A great, great, great deal…. Oh, let’s be honest, sometimes I walk out the back door of my home and am overwhelmed by life’s graphics - all the non-pixelating blues and greens. Pretty. And eveything’s so big - like the biggest monitor on the planet. It’s a lot to process, so I hustle back to my computer.

From this vantage point, I love a great web site. It’s, I assume, like finding a new neighborhood to ride your bike through or finding a new mall to hang out in.

I recently came across just such a site: Test Freaks.com. This is an amazingly well done web site with a usefulness factor that’s through the proverbial roof. Test Freaks tests a variety of products and provides the following for each:

  • The Test Freak Rank - on a scale of 1-10. For example, the Nikon D300 Digital Camera earned an 8.
  • Expert Reviews - the Nikon D300 Digital Camera, for example, has 23 expert reviews available on the site. Each product has a variety of reviews done by experts for you to sort through. These experts are people from the media or connected, in some way, to the product being reviewed. Basically, people who have done their homework so you can use their cheat sheets!
  • User Reviews - the Nikon D300 Digital Camera has an impressive 29 user reviews. Again, these are people who have first hand experience with the product in question. Invaluable!
  • Forum Threads - This one really amazed me. Test Freaks has a forum where users post their experiences with the countless products that are up for review. The product’s individual page links, not only to the different reviews, but to the forum threads, as well.
  • Pictures from all Angles - Each product has had a photography session, of course, and the outtakes are all posted for your viewing pleasure.
  • Manufacturer’s Description
  • Best Prices
  • Video Reviews!
  • And a lot more in the works…

People have put a great deal of work (and continue to put a great deal of work) into this web site and it shows. Head over Heels to Test Freaks.com right now and have a look around. Find a product you’re interested in buying and search it out.

Then, bookmark the site so you can return to it again and again.

I Phone Clone IClone Product Review

Bloged in General, Reviews by All Handhelds Tuesday November 13, 2007 at about 1:38 pm

by Rae Edwards

No matter whether I call it the Iphone Clone, The IClone, The CECT P 168, I love this phone. It allows me to do everything that I could do with an Iphone and I got it on ebay for about $100 total. I love that I can remove the battery, watch videos, play music, browse the web, and snap photos when I feel like it. I really really love that I’m not out $500. I understand completely why Popular Science called The IClone “the real thing.”

The ebay seller shipped it within 2 days. It was free and easy to sign up for ebay and the CECT P168 was cake to set up and get working. You can just connect it via USB port to your computer and off you go. Plus, you can switch out Sim cards without ever turning the phone off. It truly is a touch screen with an extremely sharp picture. Most people who see it assume that it is an Iphone.

I will definately be buying another for my son - who after seeing mine is dying for his own. He knows I would never spring $500 for an Iphone, but I have no problem spending $100 on such a nice phone as the CECT P168.

If you need more info about the IClone, check out the specs in this comparison article, check out the Popular Science article that called The IClone “the real deal,” and check out the ebay reviews.

Buying the CECT P168 from ebay easily saved me $80 or more. Plus, I was uncomfortable buying from overseas. If you’re not an ebay user, it’s easy and free to sign up for Ebay here. Plus, you are protected by Ebay’s pay pal if you pay that way. And ebay’s feedback system helps you find buyers with 100% satisfied customers. Plus, the high amount of competition on ebay ensures the lowest prices

Review of Smartphones at Wirefly

RIM BlackBerry 7290

The following is a sponsored review.

Before we get to our review of the sexy products, I thought I’d lay the groundwork. For most of us, when we hear the glorious word Smartphone, we immediately know what we’re dealing with….the very thing we’d be hard-pressed to live without! But there are countless people who are new to the world of technology and handhelds that, upon hearing one of the terms we take for granted, look as lost as I would be in downtown NYC.

So, a quick lesson. A Smartphone, as defined by Smartwebsite, Wikipedia, is….” any electronic handheld device that integrates the functionality of a mobile phone, personal digital assistant (PDA) or other information appliance. This is often achieved by adding telephone functions to an existing PDA (PDA Phone) or putting “smart” capabilities, such as PDA functions, into a mobile phone. A key feature of a smartphone is that additional native applications can be installed on the device. The applications can be developed by the manufacturer of the handheld device, by the operator or by any other third-party software developer. “Smart” functionality includes any additional interface including a miniature QWERTY keyboard, a touch screen, or even just secure access to company mail, such as is provided by a BlackBerry.”

Now on to the review!

The easiest, fastest place to shop online for mobile phones is Wirefly.com. There are no unnecessary hassles, no problems, no headaches….basically nothing standing between you and the phone of your choice. And the prices? You won’t find them lower.

I especially love their Blackberry phones. As we’ve said before on the blog and on our website, when choosing any handheld, you have to take into consideration how you want it to serve you. This especially holds true for something you’ll be using as often as a Smartphone. What are your needs, wants, and desires? How will you be using your Smartphone? What is your typical day like and how will your life be enriched and your time best managed by this Smartphone? When someone ends up unhappy in their Smartphone relationship, the problem usually isn’t the phone, itself. The problem is the buyer didn’t buy the one they actually needed. The phone didn’t come up short, their assessment did. So, when you set out to buy a Blackberry Smartphone (something I’d recommend to everyone), be sure you read the details of each one. Visually picture yourself with each and ask yourself, would this phone serve all of my needs best…or would this one?

Let’s look at a few of the most popular Blackberry Smartphones from Wirefly.com:

First up, the RIM BlackBerry 7290 (sitting pretty at the top of the post)

T-Mobile’s RIM BlackBerry 7290 boasts a color display, Bluetooth, and an easy-to-use interface. It also has very extensive e-mail support. The Always-On E-Mail Works beautifully with up to 10 Personal and Corporate Email accounts. If you’re looking for an easy to use Smartphone that features super easy to send and recieve email, intuitive icons and menus - the RIM BlackBerry 7290 will be a perfect fit for you.

Next, we have the T-Mobile RIM BlackBerry 7105t (pictured below)

RIM BlackBerry 7105t

The RIM BlackBerry 7105t SmartPhone is also a perfect choice for most people. This SmartPhone has SureType® Technology that boasts Compact and Fast 2-Letters Per Key Design (when I’m purchasing any handheld, the words compact and fast jump out at me much in the way caffeine and bold jump out at me when purchasing coffee), SureType® Advanced QWERTY Keyboard Technology, and HTML Browsing for a Full Internet Experience!

The above are just two of the many choices you have available at Wirefly.com (The #1 Seller of Cell Phones and Wireless Plans - nice reputation if you can earn it. They did.). I’d suggest that you click the link I just threw your way, grab a cup of coffee, and sit back and shop. Go to each of the SmartPhones they offer and soak up all of the information available. Keep in mind, Wirefly offers 100 percent satisfaction guaranteed, 100 percent money back if you aren’t happy, and even free return shipping. You won’t, however, need the last two offers - you’ll love your new SmartPhone and wonder how you ever lived without it.

While on the website, be sure you check out the amazing BONUS offers and specials…then, take complete and total advantage of them!

Toshiba’s EasyGuard

Bloged in General, Reviews, Laptop Computers by All Handhelds Thursday August 17, 2006 at about 4:04 pm

If you can’t save yourself from doing mistakes, Toshiba’s EasyGuard saves you!

by John Gibb
We are humans and we all do mistakes but since the saying “to err is human; to forgive is divine!” won’t come to any help when you have just smashed your laptop by mistakenly letting it fall; somebody has to think about saving you from the consequences. The solution to situations like this one is the Toshiba’s new EasyGuard laptop series! EasyGuard features special characteristics that are aimed at helping your laptop live longer even when you are working under the most severe conditions. EasyGuard laptops come with rubber fortified corners which will protect the interior parts of the laptop in the event of a sudden fall. Additionally, EasyGuard is fortified with sealed keyboards that protect the laptop from spills as well as interior rubber protectors and air cells. Those physically present features are the first line of defense against bad environmental conditions and human mistakes. Dropping down a laptop by mistake is something that doesn’t happen every day; but when it happens, it can be a disaster.

What’s really amazing about EasyGuard’s technology is that it contains motion sensors which will automatically detect any sudden falls; if the motion detectors are activated then the built - in shock absorbers will do their job to protect your precious laptop from a possibly fatal crash. Those great features will help you protect the physical components of your EasyGuard but that’s not all there is about this laptop; Toshiba has also though about protection of the non - physical components.

Toshiba puts in use some of the most advanced security features; this includes a TPMC (Trusted Platform Module-compatible) data encryption chip as well as USB flash drive/SD Card in order to keep the decryption keys securely. Regarding connectivity, EasyGuard features a Bluetooth and 2 WiFi antennae. The two WiFi antennae can provide a better connectivity while Toshiba’s ConfigFree utility will help the laptop user with any network issues that might appear.

Obviously, Toshiba’s EasyGuard laptops, as the name suggests are aimed at helping you out with difficult situations / conditions. EasyGuard will not only provide you with improved connectivity and data security but it will also do it’s best to lessen the effects of a sudden fall or a strong hit that it might suffer. Tackling those difficult situations can always save you time, effort and of course money! EasyGuard could by no means be considered overpriced and companies seeking to minimize their IT expenses should definitely consider it’s advantages.

Wii to dominate game market

Bloged in General, Reviews, All Handhelds by All Handhelds Saturday July 15, 2006 at about 10:50 am

by Insyder

Rumors have been spreading around various Wii Forums on the web, speculating as to how Nintendo’s new system will fare on the market. According to many gamers, the Wii is guaranteed to surface as the dominate console in the upcoming console war of 2007. Here’s why:

The Wii appeals to a broad audience, has great in-house game support and strong support from third party developers such as Hudson. The Wii’s controls are, in a word, ‘revolutionary’ and will set the stage for a true shift in how the public plays games. In addition to all of this, the Wii will retail for a mere $250 in the US, in sharp contrast to the Xbox 360’s $400 price tag and the staggering $600 for the ps3.

The primary philosophy of both the Microsoft and Sony console has been to improve graphics capabilities across the board, but with such a steep price for so much flash and flair, most gamers can only afford one console, let alone both. But with the cheap pricing of the Wii, many gamers will find themselves owning both a Nintendo console and either a Microsoft or Sony console.

But which will they be buying? It’s my opinion, along with many of my fellow insiders, that the Xbox360 and the Wii will emerge victorious, with Nintendo’s revolutionary console selling the most units. The 360 has a better gaming lineup, and comes at a much cheaper price than the ps3. But regardless of which heavy-hitting graphics oriented console most players buy, odds are Nintendo will come up the strongest because of it’s affordability and mass appeal.

We expect Nintendo’s stock to rise substantially as the months approaching the Wii launch progress.

Worst Tech of 2006 (So Far)

Bloged in General, Reviews by All Handhelds Monday April 17, 2006 at about 11:33 am

Worst Tech of 2006 (so far), and it makes for a pretty good read.

Check out what they said about the Sony Walman Bean:
Thanks to hissy audio, a weird interface, and stupid controls, we’d rather listen to a plate of three-bean salad than to Sony’s bean-shaped player. For what it’s worth, the Sony Walkman Bean is also the best MP3 player named after a legume. But there isn’t much competition in that category.

That’s gotta hurt.

Movie downloads are an excellent choice for getting the latest movies quickly and without the hassles of traveling to the video rental location. There are many locations right on the web that can provide you with the best of the best for much less. There are several locations that do offer a wide range of choice when it comes to movie downloads. Some offer more than others or they offer a better quality product. It will take a little looking to find the most affordable choice that is also the one that has what you would like to download.

Once you find the right location for your movie downloads, you can easily and quickly (it seems almost instantly) download them to your PC, your notebook, or you can check out iPod movie downloads as well. There are specific services that are available to provide you with the ability to get great quality movies on your iPod. If you choose iPod movies, you can find the right location to download from on the web to your iPod, take the movies with you wherever you decide to go and, if you like them; you can even burn them to CD.

No matter if you choose iPod movies or find a few great movies to download to your PC, there are many services that are providing this ability to you. If you are skilled, you can even find a few free iPod movie downloads or free movie downloads to tap into as well. Of course, to get the best products available, you may want to go with a paid service. It also pays for you to take your time in checking out a few of the services for their fees and their membership details. With so much competition out there, you are sure to find a great deal being offered to new members. Movie downloads are fast becoming the best way to get the movies you want to see quickly.
