Toshiba’s EasyGuard

Bloged in General, Reviews, Laptop Computers by All Handhelds Thursday August 17, 2006 at about 4:04 pm

If you can’t save yourself from doing mistakes, Toshiba’s EasyGuard saves you!

by John Gibb
We are humans and we all do mistakes but since the saying “to err is human; to forgive is divine!” won’t come to any help when you have just smashed your laptop by mistakenly letting it fall; somebody has to think about saving you from the consequences. The solution to situations like this one is the Toshiba’s new EasyGuard laptop series! EasyGuard features special characteristics that are aimed at helping your laptop live longer even when you are working under the most severe conditions. EasyGuard laptops come with rubber fortified corners which will protect the interior parts of the laptop in the event of a sudden fall. Additionally, EasyGuard is fortified with sealed keyboards that protect the laptop from spills as well as interior rubber protectors and air cells. Those physically present features are the first line of defense against bad environmental conditions and human mistakes. Dropping down a laptop by mistake is something that doesn’t happen every day; but when it happens, it can be a disaster.

What’s really amazing about EasyGuard’s technology is that it contains motion sensors which will automatically detect any sudden falls; if the motion detectors are activated then the built - in shock absorbers will do their job to protect your precious laptop from a possibly fatal crash. Those great features will help you protect the physical components of your EasyGuard but that’s not all there is about this laptop; Toshiba has also though about protection of the non - physical components.

Toshiba puts in use some of the most advanced security features; this includes a TPMC (Trusted Platform Module-compatible) data encryption chip as well as USB flash drive/SD Card in order to keep the decryption keys securely. Regarding connectivity, EasyGuard features a Bluetooth and 2 WiFi antennae. The two WiFi antennae can provide a better connectivity while Toshiba’s ConfigFree utility will help the laptop user with any network issues that might appear.

Obviously, Toshiba’s EasyGuard laptops, as the name suggests are aimed at helping you out with difficult situations / conditions. EasyGuard will not only provide you with improved connectivity and data security but it will also do it’s best to lessen the effects of a sudden fall or a strong hit that it might suffer. Tackling those difficult situations can always save you time, effort and of course money! EasyGuard could by no means be considered overpriced and companies seeking to minimize their IT expenses should definitely consider it’s advantages.

A desktop on the move, the Toshiba Satellite M65-S809

Bloged in Laptop Computers by All Handhelds Sunday August 13, 2006 at about 4:01 pm

by John Gibb

To the old, classic and controversial question “Does size matter?” there are only few other laptops that would give such a definite “yes” to this answer as the Toshiba Satellite M65-S809 does. This laptop features many great characteristics that would easily justify its size.

First of all, the M65 comes with a wide, 17″ LCD screen! The screen can provide you with a really satisfying resolution and it also comes with Toshiba’s homemade TruBrite technology. Although you might be thinking that a laptop with a screen like this should weight like an elephant, the M65 will prove you wrong; the laptop weights no more than 7 pounds! But those 2 small surprises are just the beginning! After you have a look at what this laptop features you might as well be double-checking the price tag!

The M65 features a double-layer DVD burner and a 100GB HDD. It’s equipped with Harmon Kardon speakers, three USB ports as well as FireWire, S-Video, ExpressCard and PC Card ports/slots! The heart of the M65 is the 1.73GHZ Intel Pentium M740 processor which is backed up by a considerable 520GB of RAM. Software-wise, along with your brand new M65 you will also get many valuable programs. First of all, you will get WinDVD Creator 2 Platinum; this is a pretty good program for video-editing. Additionally, with Express Media Player by Toshiba you are able to play CDs or DVDs without even launching Windows! For your disc burning needs, Toshiba ships the M65 along with RecodNow and finally, for wireless simplicity you are given the ConfigFree utility which will greatly assist you. Of course, before putting an end to this review you should also be informed about things that will not exactly give you the satisfactory feeling you might be expecting. Some people might consider M65’s wireless capabilities as limited while others might find out that the keyboard and its mouse are not really easy to use for them. Of course, those are only personal opinions and you won’t be able to find out until you take the M65 for a test drive by yourself.

To put everything together, this laptop is far better than it should be if you judge it from its price. All the above candy features will come along with a surprising 4+ hours battery life!

For those pessimists and nitpickers out there, the old adage may come to mind: it’s too good to be true. And, yes, the Toshiba M65 S809 has its weak spots. Its keyboard could be considered cramped, its mouse button design awkward. You might even say that it’s wireless capabilities are middle of the pack.

But for what you’re getting at less than $1,500, a simple test drive before you buy will tell you whether those are deal-breakers. Otherwise, nitpickers and pessimists need not apply

Cube World!

Bloged in Gadgets, Defies a Category by All Handhelds Monday August 7, 2006 at about 3:38 pm

Cube World Series 1: Dodger and Whip

While I was watching a story on television last night about Cube World - I felt like a kid who’d just discoverd what to put at the top of Santa’s list. The list is now, of course, more of a series of hints - and the main person they’re directed to wouldn’t be caught dead in that furry red outfit. To say nothing of the beard. But the whole routine is pretty much the same - I want-y, I gett-y…. If I’m good-y.

You have to check these little guys all the way out.

Cube World Series 1: Scoop and Slim

Manufacturer’s Description:
“Play with one or build a world with Cube World Series. They’ll play, visit and interact with one another. You can play games and pester them, tilt the cube and an interactive motion sensor will cause the stick men to fall on their side and upside down. Stack them for an interactive block party. Measures 1.83″ x 1.83″ x 1.83″.vv”

Click on any of the dudes above to read more about their world.

I’m off to be good…..
